Stock optimisation is often misunderstood.

In retail, stock optimisation involves more than just tracking inventory; it's about ensuring stock is easily identified, accessed, replenished, and sold. My retail operations experience shows that stockroom organisation directly affects sales floor efficiency. Poorly structured stockrooms lead to inefficiencies: lost time searching for products, slower replenishment, difficult stock management, challenging stocktakes, ineffective space use, and sales teams focusing on stock rather than customers. However, an inefficient stockroom presents an opportunity. With proper structure, categorisation, space utilisation, and processes, a stockroom can enhance sales operations. The goal is clear: know your inventory, know its location, make it accessible, and make it sellable. Stock optimisation is not just inventory management; it's a sales-support function.
